Indoor Batting Cages
Indoor batting cages are often used in climates where season weather does not permit outside activity. They can be beneficial in keeping batting practice on schedule even with snow on the ground or when there are rainy conditions. Because gripping a bat with cold fingers can hinder batting technique, weather can be an important factor when choosing to use or buy an indoor batting cage.
The cage should still be durable, however. In addition, indoor conditions indoors, such as humidity and heat, should be taken into consideration when choosing indoor batting cages. Aside from the actual netting material, the construction of a net can help determine how long it will last. There are three basic styles of indoor batting cages and IndoorBattingCages.net has successful operators in all three types. The selection of which style cage fits your needs best is a combination of budget and operational case. The least expensive method is also the hardest to operate. Here is a brief summary of each style cage:
The Free-Standing Indoor Cage:This style cage is for those wanting to get started with the lowest possible investment in an indoor operation. The space can be leased or purchased and is not going to change substantially from its original condition. The cage is enclosed with net by hanging the net from the ceiling or from cables. The floor is kept the same and thus the cage in not automated. The balls will have to be picked up, sorted, and put back in the machines manually.
The "Built-to-Fit" Indoor Cage: This is the most deluxe cage and unless you are constructing the building from scratch, the most expensive indoor cage. It usually requires owning the building since the space will have to be substantially altered to automate the cage. The floor is sloped around three feet to get the balls to the retrieval system using gravity instead of mechanical conveyors like the Modular Cage does. This is done with concrete in a newly constructed building and wood in a structure that is already built. Concrete gives the best chances for successfully automating the cage since it gives a better contoured and sloped surface.
Indoor Modular Cages: The Range Pro Modular cage is pre-manufactured by Amusement Products to give you an automated cage in the smallest space. Often used indoors, it is the most compact automated cage and measures 16ft. wide X 13ft. tall X 55ft. long. The Modular cage has a raised floor inside its steel frame that allows us to automate ball retrieval and distribution. It elevates the batter only 20in. off the floor, making it the least elevated batter's station. The Modular cage is the most cost-effective indoor automated cage for locations consisting of six stations or less.
